Midlantic Business Alliance criticizes Senator Specter for eminent domain reform activity
Philadelphia - March 7, 2006 - Midlantic Business Alliance, representing thousands of member businesses in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, has begun a campaign to highlight the failure of Senator Arlen Specter and his Judiciary Committee to bring eminent domain legislation to the floor of the Senate. MBA bases its criticism on Senator Specter's holding up House Bill H.R. 4128 The Private Property Rights Protection Act of 2005 which was referred to the Judiciary Committee on November 4, 2005.
According to MBA spokesman Stephen Markowitz, “Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. of Wisconsin introduced H.R. 4128 into the House on September 25, 2005. The bill was resolved November 4, 2005 and referred the same day to the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator Specter. For almost four months, the Senator has kept the bill from proceeding. The strategies applied by municipalities following the Kelo vs. New London decision has put private property at risk based on the vote of just a single township commissioner who can swing a vote. Americans across the country have risen up in opposition to this outrage, but Senator Specter seems to be disconnected to the urgency of action required in this issue. We need him to move legislation to the floor now.”
